SUSTAINABILITY
Every company needs to look carefully at the environment. While outlining strategies for entering the electrification era head on, the biggest companies in the automotive industry are setting goals to preserve nature, such as carbon neutralization and a significant decrease in CO2 emissions.
Iochpe-Maxion does its part by making a social commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2025. Thus, as a business division responsible for the production of metallic structural components, Maxion Structural Components has a fundamental role to help the company achieve its objective.
It is not a recent fact that the company has adopted sustainability as one of its core values. More than 20 years ago, Maxion Structural Components (or MSC) created sustainability committees in all its plants. These groups will play a key role in the pursuit of targets.
In pursuit of objectives
MSC has established an extensive action plan to become a more sustainable company and to contribute with Iochpe-Maxion in its mission to reduce CO2 emissions by 30%.
The planning measures include the acquisition of electricity from renewable sources in the period from 2022 to 2025 and the implementation of projects to reduce the consumption of natural gas and electricity from 2021 to 2030.
In the 2030s to 2040s, the goal is to implement projects to reduce CO2 emissions from indirect sources, such as the transportation of raw materials and finished products. Finally, Maxion Structural Components will also offset the remaining emissions with a certificate and, from 2040, will become a neutral carbon company.
The Environment Management, which monitors four Global Indicators (energy, natural gas, water and waste), structured a campaign to strengthen the Sustainability Culture at all levels of the company. The intention is to promote the awareness of all employees, from the leaders to the factory floor.
It is also important to note that MSC does not intend to only modify the environmental impact within its corridors, but to carry out actions capable of changing the external environment.
With this in mind, the Sustainable Purchasing Standard was created, which includes negotiation with green suppliers (whose commitment to sustainability is present in their actions), the purchase of materials with less environmental impact and influence on purchases of renewable sources.
