Maxion Advances Product Lifecycle Transparency with New Global LCA

Maxion has reached an important milestone in its sustainability journey by completing a new global Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) covering key product segments across 24 manufacturing facilities worldwide.

LCA may sound technical. In simple terms, a Life Cycle Assessment helps us understand where environmental impacts occur across a product’s life cycle. That insight matters because it supports better decisions in product design, production and supply-chain management, and because customers increasingly request transparent, standardized environmental data and, in some cases, the achievement of specific product carbon footprint values.

Until now, Maxion had worked with decentralized, individual LCAs. The new global study marks a significant step forward by creating a more harmonized and consistent approach across wheels and structural components.

The assessment was conducted using 2024 production data and follows ISO 14040/44 and ISO 14067[1], applying the Environmental Footprint 3.1 methodology[2] with 16 impact categories. It also achieved a high share of primary data for key foreground processes such as electricity, natural gas and transport, strengthening data robustness at a global level.

The findings confirm that raw materials — especially steel and aluminum — are the largest contributors to our product carbon footprint. This reinforces the importance of material choices and supplier engagement as key levers to reduce environmental impact over time.

Just as important, this harmonized approach gives Maxion a stronger foundation for the future. It helps us identify reduction opportunities, track progress over time and integrate lifecycle thinking more deeply into product development and strategic decision-making, including our decarbonization roadmap.

The report also supports a growing business need. More and more customers expect transparent environmental information, and this global LCA strengthens Maxion’s ability to provide a more consistent basis for those conversations.
